Illuminated site study

A field reconstruction of the rocky night-side site under near-field illumination. It brings the visible surface relationships together for examination by the science team.

Illuminated night-side terrain reconstruction with lamp-lit foreground rock and a small instrument, dark distant ridges, a basin and an illustrative dense starfield
Field reconstruction · active near-field illumination. Surface forms remain under examination; the reconstruction does not establish their biological identity.

Light and distance

The near-field lamp reveals surface texture and nearby objects. The distant ridges and basin remain darker. Illumination and viewing distance must be considered when comparing this reconstruction with passive observations.

A separate passive view

Passive starlight observations have a different exposure and visibility limit. Near-infrared illumination and thermal observations use separate instrument channels. Each remains linked to its own acquisition record.

Reference status

The sky is contextual in this reconstruction. Surface structures remain unclassified. Water, ice and ecological resources are assessed against the environmental and chemical records, rather than inferred from appearance alone.
